The Cooperative Credit Union Association hosts its first, Armed Robbery/Active Shooter preparedness program. Successfully surviving a sudden incident of violence is 90% mental and 10% physical skill and this course focuses on the 90% mental while concurrently providing skills to survive the 10% physical - as a last resort. Surviving an Incident of Violence Course provides a solid foundation for gaining the skills necessary to prepare for “making good decisions in fractions of a second” - which is the key to survival. This course brings highly critical, general skills in mastering the decision-making process by bringing attendees a solid understanding of both themselves and their opponent - “the bad guy”.

In a business environment, the most important factors are recognizing signs of violence in advance and becoming proficient in de-escalation techniques and skills. The mastering of these skills is critical as they can be the most important factors in either calming or fueling anger levels. The end result of this course will also provide all attendees with a base “mindset” and thought process that will keep them as safe while they are away from work as much as it does while they are at work. Ultimately this course provides the foundational skills to be able to develop an overall plan that is based on and guided by good, solid policy. Also covered will be Practical Personal Defense designed to keep your employees safe while away from work via preparation for an incident of violence primarily through awareness, avoidance, and mental strength building. If your employees are your most assets, they are just as important while they are away from work as they are while at work. This material includes 100% practical, highly effective tactics and techniques which are not dependent on what your opponent does.  And finally, in the event of the worst case of a real violent encounter, how do you prepare and ultimately defeat your attacker if required in order to saves lives?
Instructor:

Terry L. Choate Jr.
Lieutenant
Jaffrey Police Department

Terry Choate is a full-time Lt. with the Jaffrey Police Department where he has served for the past 11 years. His passion for personal, business, and school safety; understanding those who victimize others and how/why they do so; how our minds work to make both good and bad decisions; how to influence others and the outcomes of situations; and practical and effective means and methods to solve problems associated with protecting lives started far before becoming a police officer when he was in his early teens.

Terry is equally passionate about finding unique and effective ways of dealing with the out-of-control drug problem. He has extensive experience and associated training in illegal drugs; undercover drug work; and has been involved in numerous drug arrests, search warrants, and drug operations.
